Science at Admirals
At Admirals we have a passion for teaching high quality science that sparks interest and curiosity, as well as encouraging high aspirations for our learners.
Our teaching broadly follows the National Curriculum which is divided into Lower Key Stage Two (Years 3 and 4) and Upper Key Stage Two (Years 5 and 6) then split further into individual year groups, with some themes being repeated. E.g. ‘Animals, Including Humans’, appears in all year groups, progressing from a knowledge of the basic skeleton to the more complex circulatory and digestive system. Years 3 and 4 focus on gaining a greater understanding of the world around them. Years 5 and 6 focus on more abstract ideas and deeper understanding of complex scientific concepts. More information on the National Curriculum can be found here: National curriculum
There is a strong focus on teaching scientific investigation skills through these themes. Targets children are expected to meet can be seen here:

We took part in British Science Week 9-18th March 2018, a ten-day celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths, with the theme ‘Exploration and Discovery’. It was great to see so many parents come in to the academy and share a learning experience with their child: classes completed mini-experiments, shared what they had done during their morning science challenge (where children worked in mixed age groups on an activity of their choice) and presented their science fayre projects.
