In Year 4 we are currently following a Strategic School Improvement Fund (SSIF) project which involves teaching reading through science and foundation subjects. The focus of this is providing a knowledge-rich curriculum where children learn through reading and become confident with the relevant vocabulary. This project also encourages children to build links between what they are learning in different subjects, rather than viewing them as separate entities.
In the spring term in English, we have written a play script based on our Cross-Curricular learning about the Roman invasion. In the summer term we will be producing a persuasive text and we will look at stories from other cultures.
In History, we have a theme of Romans running throughout the year, allowing the children to focus on different aspects of this theme in more detail. In the summer term we will be looking at Roman history in the local area. As part of this we will be going on a school trip.
Each term in Science we concentrate on two different units. The children have really enjoyed being introduced to a range of scientific fields. Since Christmas, we have learned about cells, light and the periodic table. In the summer term we will focus on energy, electricity and biodiversity.
R.E. has been based on the story of Jesus. In the summer term we will be learning about the Easter story.
Geography is taught each half term. We have been working on our knowledge of countries in Europe and next we will learn all about rivers and settlements.
