Japanese Taiko Drumming
The children in years 5 and 6 had a fantastic two days learning Japanese Taiko Drumming, which can be traced back to the 6th century.
These are very large and powerful drums. The children had a fabulous day and found that, to undertake the drumming, took a lot of energy and muscle power.
To commence, the children had warm up and muscle stretching and they then took it in turns to play the drums, whilst the other children joined in with the movements and chanting. There was also the opportunity for them to learn a little about the Japanese culture and how to count in Japanese.
Children’s comments included:-
- I liked counting in Japanese.
- It’s very creative.
- We’re not really allowed to be as loud as that!
- I liked the different patterns.
- It was fast and it was a challenge.
